1. Introduction
Barrow Mount Ltd is committed to upholding the highest legal and ethical standards in employment. This policy is based on International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions and UK law, and reflects our commitment to ensuring that child labour and forced labour have no place in our business or our supply chain. We recognise regional and cultural differences but maintain a universal minimum employment age of 16 and prohibit all forms of forced or exploitative labour.
2. Statement of principles on child and forced labour
2.1 Barrow Mount believes it has a responsibility to adopt employment practices that are both lawful and ethical. This includes strict adherence to minimum age laws and the provision of safe, fair and voluntary working conditions.
2.2 This policy sets out the principles we follow within our own business and the expectations we have for our suppliers and partners. We expect our suppliers to adopt similar standards and to require the same of their own supply chains. This policy will be reviewed and updated as required to remain effective and relevant.
3. Barrow Mount’s operations
Barrow Mount does not engage in or permit the employment of individuals below the minimum legal age for work. In accordance with ILO standards and national law, employment is restricted to those aged 16 or over. In roles requiring more advanced responsibility, we apply a minimum age of 18.
All staff and contractors working with or through Barrow Mount must meet these minimum age requirements. No candidate or worker is engaged through any form of forced labour. We define forced labour as any work or service extracted from an individual under threat, coercion or penalty, and performed involuntarily.
4. Suppliers and third-party partners
Barrow Mount does not tolerate the use of child labour or forced labour in any form within its supply chain. We will not knowingly engage with any supplier, subcontractor or partner who fails to comply with these standards.
All suppliers must ensure that no individual under the legal minimum employment age is employed, and that no work is carried out under duress, threat or coercion. We expect full compliance with all relevant child protection, labour and human rights laws in every jurisdiction where our suppliers operate.
Failure to meet these requirements will result in the immediate termination of the business relationship.
